Marwari Horse is the original desert horse breed of Marwar region
of Rajasthan state of India. This breed can withstand intense heat
and cold and adverse climatic conditions. Marwari Horse breed is
known for its elegance, beauty, vigor, endurance, intelligence,
alertness, animated gait and peculiar ear tips touching each other.
Capable of covering long distances with good speed by virtue of
its strong limbs and hooves.
The Marwari Horse posses a well refined head. The shape of the
forehead is chiselled type, generally flat but convex forehead is
also observed in many animals. The forehead is well set between
the eyes with soft medium muzzle. Jaws are prominent and well built.
The medium sized ears are soft, tips of the ear touch. The horses
ears rotates 180 degree on the axis. The eyes are large round, set
widely apart giving a slight convex shape to the eye balls. The
nostrils are large rounded with flared look and quite sensitive.
The shoulders are muscular long and broad. Neck is carried high.
The quarters are well built and muscular.
The length of the legs is medium enabling the animal to travel long
distances with medium pace.
The tail of the Marwari is well set and carried high.
A wide range of colours is observed in Marwari Horses. The most
common body colours are Bhanwar ( Dark Brown ), Kumet ( Dark Bay
), Shyam Ablak ( Piebald ), Lal Ablak ( Skewbald ), Surang ( Chestnut
), Champa ( Dun ), Sanjab ( Blue Roan ), Shwet ( Grey ) and Kagra
( Fleabitten & Dappled Grey ).
